Boy in the Alley

In a narrow Barcelona alley, a lone boy gazes upward at colorful flags strung between towering, timeworn buildings. His small figure, caught between shadows and light, symbolizes both the weight of inherited burdens and the fragile hope of a new generation. The flags and rich green plants evoke resilience, diversity, and the promise of growth amid hardship. This image invites reflection on the quiet battles ahead, against injustice, for belonging, for a better world, and honors the faith and determination it takes to step forward beneath the watchful gaze of history.

Honorable Mention

Noetic Observer
By Jennifer Johnson

This piece is part of my series exploring selfhood and metamorphosis through abstract expressionism. 'Noetic Observer' hovers in a state of perpetual becoming—a figure that seems to be both a part of the world and apart from it. A paradox captured in vibrant hues and action painting- chaos and tranquility- simply there. Is the Observer watching? Or trapped by the verticality of the paint? Or warm and cozy gazing out at a snowstorm? Or lost in introspection?
